Centerville Resident Rings In the New Year with $50,000

While in Kansas City for a concert, a Centerville resident decided to check some of the Powerball tickets he purchased that week. One of his tickets, when scanned, said he had won $50,000.

“My wife was out in the car when I decided to scan a few,” said Johnny Tarvid. “When I told her I won $50,000, she said, ‘Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh!’”

Tarvid’s Powerball ticket matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number for the Dec. 30 drawing. The numbers were 28, 36, 41, 51, 58, and the Powerball number was 24.

After heading home from Kansas City, Tarvid headed to Lottery headquarters on Jan. 2 to claim his big prize and ring in the new year.

He and his wife do not have any immediate plans for the money except to put it in the bank.

Tarvid purchased his winning Powerball ticket at G & S Convenience, Highway 72 and Hay St., in Bunker.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Research all current and past winning numbers at MOLottery.com.
