New Businesses Opening in Piedmont

MiMi’s Restaurant, Neighbors Cleaners, and Angie’s Stop and Shop closed in late December. This does not mean gloom and doom for the community. The business district in Piedmont is see-ing new growth. Several new businesses are preparing to open. Alex Young has announced plans to open Junior’s Steakhouse on Elm Street. Young has previous restaurant and management experience. Dalton and Emily Radford are opening The Boys Are Back, Food Service. The Piedmont couple will offer lunches, delivered, a couple times a week starting out. They will have a food trailer available this spring for festivals, parties, weddings. Sue Sullivan has several businesses that will be opening in the Angie’s Stop and Shop building. One business that will be opening in the building will be an ice cream shoppe. Another will be a sewing corner. Sullivan will have a used book store in the building as well as antiques, primitives and collectibles. Sullivan has also indicated that she will have consignment furniture for sale in the shop. Tiger Salvage has been open in the old Z Manufacturing building on Main Street for about a month. Other businesses in the building include Tiger Fitness and Treasures on Main; both of these businesses have been in business for about six months. Renovation work has been occurring in the old dry cleaner building. The owners have indicated that they are contemplating opening another business in the building. All of these businesses are locally owned. The city has hired an economic developer in an attempt to fill the old Walmart building and to bring additional businesses into the community.
