Filing for August Primary Election Opens Tuesday

Chris Dinkins has yet to be sworn into office as 144th District State Representative; she was elected to office Feb. 6 in a special election. However, candidates are lining up to file for that office again.

The 2018 Primary will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7. The filing period for candidates for the August 2018 primary election begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 and ends at 5 p.m. on March 27. The five established parties in Missouri are: Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, Green, and Constitution.

State representative is just one of the several offices for which voters can declare their candidacies. Several county offices will also be up for election.

Filing for the following offices will take place in the office of the Honorable John R. Ashcroft, Missouri Secretary of State, in the James C. Kirkpatrick State Information Center at 600 West Main Street in Jefferson City, Mo.

• U.S. Senator

• State Auditor

• Attorney General

• Representative in Congress for 8th Congressional District

• Member of the House of Representatives in each 144th District

• Member of the House of Representatives in each 163rd District

• Circuit Judge Circuit No. 42, Division 1

Filing for the following offices will take place in the office of Brenda Seal, County Clerk of Wayne County, Wayne County Courthouse, Greenville, Mo.

• Associate Circuit Judge

• Presiding Commissioner of the County Commission

• County Clerk

• Recorder of Deeds

• County Treasurer

• Prosecuting Attorney

• Collector of Revenue

Declarations of candidacy may be filed for township committeeman and township committeewoman. The importance of these positions was very evident this year when Paul Fitzwater resigned as state representative, and the Democrat and Republican legislative committee had to pick candidates to run in a special election.
