Wappapello Lake: A Quality Vacation Without

for those seeking outdoor fun. No matter what the season may
be, you can enjoy hunting, fishing, swimming, boating, camping,
picnicking or just relaxing for the day at Wappapello Lake.
The diversity of activities found on over 44,000 acres of land
and water at Wappapello Lake is nearly endless. Campers can find
four peaceful and clean campgrounds with 288 campsites, many with
water, sewer and 50 amp electric hookups. All have shower facilities
and are close to boat ramps playgrounds and picnic areas. Boaters
can enjoy over 8400 acres of water perfect for fishing or recreational
boating. 26 boat ramps makes accessing this resource easy and
convenient. Beach goers can choose from three developed sand beaches,
and those seeking lodging can choose from several modern resorts
featuring full service marinas. Planned special events such as
the 4th of July Festivities and Old Greenville Days are sure to
entertain the whole family and are free of charge.
While visiting Wappapello Lake, stop by the Bill Emerson Memorial
Visitor Center, located at the south end of the dam, pick up free
lake information, and see the exhibit room and the interpretive
displays that depict the everyday operations of Wappapello Lake
and provide a historical perspective of the area. Natural and
cultural resources are interpreted through trails and various
programs, which highlight the natural beauty found in Southeast
Missouri. Pine Ridge, Lost Creek and Johnson Tract Trails are
part of the National Trails System, and the "Memory Lane"
historic walk, located within Greenville Recreation Area, is listed
on the National Register of Historic Places.
Water safety and hunter education safety courses are also provided
to the public to promote visitor safety. Ranger Willie B. Safe
and the safety team invite you to play it safe and explore the
