The John J. Pershing Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center will host its 5th Annual “Welcome Home” Celebration for military Veterans and their families and friends on Saturday, September 29.  The event will be held on the medical center grounds at 1500 N. Westwood Blvd. in Poplar Bluff.  The “Welcome Home” theme spotlights returning Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans, but also serves as a way to honor all those who have served their country.  The public is welcome and invited to participate in this free event and help show the community’s appreciation for America’s heroes.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, beginning with a ceremony at 10:00 a.m. inducting seven Veteran heroes into the John J. Pershing VAMC’s “Wall of Valor.”  Unique among VA medical centers to the Poplar Bluff VA, the purpose of the Wall of Valor is to recognize Veterans who have received awards for their valorous actions in combat.

Following the ceremony, Veterans and their families are invited to explore the Antique/Custom/Hot Rod Car Show, listen to live music, and enjoy watching the kids in the bounce house or indulging in face painting.  Refreshments will be available to attendees, and tours of the medical center will take place throughout the day. In the event of adverse weather conditions the ceremony will be held inside the medical center lobby.

For more information about the event, contact the Craig Barwick at 573-686-4151 extension 5-4458 or 1-888-557-8262 extension 5-4458.
