Wayne County’s newest church, The Cross Community Church in Patterson, located at the junction of Highway 34 and 143 in the building that formerly housed Treasures, has been open since Dec. 1, 2012. Dale and Connie Henson lead worship which begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday mornings.
The Cross is for all Bible-believing people. The Hensons said the purpose of the church is “to worship our Creator.”
“I have seen so many hurting people that don’t seem to be going to church,” Dale Henson said. “This church is my way to reach out to them. I want to provide something that is a little bit different.”
Praise and worship is the goal of The Cross. Henson said that he feels the Lord has led him to encourage people and to tell them that there is hope.
The church puts a strong focus on music. Each Sunday, about 45 minutes of music is followed by a 15-minute message.
“I want to encourage people,” Henson said. “God loves them. There is hope for everyone. My goal is not to take members away from area churches. I want to reach out to people who are not attending church. All of the area churches are good churches.”
The Hensons have received support from people who are members of other churches. Some of the people who are in the church band are members of other churches. The Hensons said their service lets out by 9:30-9:45 so people can attend a second worship service Sunday morning.
