Crash Scene

Missouri State Highway Patrolman Bobby Riefle conducts measurements Thursday afternoon, April 13, at the scene of a school bus accident near Piedmont. The crash occurred at 12:40 p.m. on Wayne County Road 353, .10 mile south of the Piedmont city limits. The Highway Patrol reported that the school bus was backing up and struck a 2013 Taotoa moped driven by 20-year-old Shane M. Preston of Piedmont. Witnesses reported that Preston jumped off the moped before the bus hit it; Preston was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries. The remains of the moped came to rest under the front wheel of the bus. The school bus driver and students on the bus were not injured, according to the Highway Patrol. Superintendent Deborah Hand came to the scene; parents were notified of the accident and parents came to the scene to pick up their children.
