Helen Nadine Slusher
Helen Nadine Slusher, age 92, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Townhouse Residential Care Center in Annapolis. She was born AprilĀ 1, 1925 in Saco, Mo., the daughter of Thomas J. Berry and Myrtle (West) Berry.
A lifelong resident of Iron County, she worked for many years as a bus driver and teacher’s aide at the Missouri State School in Ironton. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Annapolis.
Helen was married to James G. Slusher Dec. 22, 1942 in Ironton, Mo., and he passed away Aug. 15, 2000.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, Thomas and Myrtle Berry and one brother, James T. Berry.
Survivors include three children, Carolyn Sue Hodge and her husband Virgel, of Piedmont, James Gay Slusher and his wife Shirley, of Des Arc, Mary Jean Westmoreland and her husband Richard, of Annapolis.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kenny Hodge, Kathy McKelvey, Jimmy Slusher, Gayla Dace and Jeremy Stevens, two step grandchildren, Jennifer Giovando and Beth L’Heureux, along with 12 great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Morrison-Worley Chapel in Piedmont with Rev. Gary Rhodes officiating. Special recorded songs were played for the service and Kenny Hodge, Jimmy Slusher, Jeremy Stevens, Quinton Dace, David McKelvey and Brad Slusher served as pallnearers. Ryan McKelvey, William Dace, Karl Dace, Conner Stevens, Christopher Seals, Allen Hodge and Andrew Hodges served as Honorary pallbearers. Interment was in the Annapolis Cemetery under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel.
