Joseph C. Middleton
Joseph Charles Middleton, Sr., 83 of Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, surrounded by his wife and children at the Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown.
He was born to Otto Joseph and Elsie May (Brooks) Middleton, on June 25, 1934, in Centerville.
He married Patti L. Ray on April 25, 1959, at Kirkwood.
Joe, a born-again believer in Jesus Christ his Savior, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Redford. He served in the U.S. Army and was recalled during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired after forty-five years with Emerson Electric in St. Louis. He was a delegate and president of the AFL-CIO Local #1102 union in St. Louis and served on the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Committee. He liked to play horseshoes and sing southern gospel music with the “Sonrise Singers.”
He is survived by his wife, Patt Middleton of Lewistown; children, Dianne Miller of Waterloo, Ill., Donna Middleton and Brad Grotefendt of Hamel, Ill., Joseph C. Middleton, Jr. of Cave Creek, Ariz., Mary (Mel) Middleton of Grants Pass, Ore. and Rev. Ted Middleton of Lewistown; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Imogene (Sam) Harter of Waterloo, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 5 at the First Baptist Church of Lewistown, with Rev. Jeff Anderson, Rev. Ted Middleton and Dr. Gary Schluckebier officiating.
Burial with Military honors was Sunday, Aug. 6 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Centerville, near the Middleton family farm. Serving as pallbearers were: Joseph C. Middleton, Jr., Rev. Ted Middleton, Garreth Dowell, Matt Strayhorn and Joe McBroom. Honorary pallbearers were: Ronald Middleton, Donny Miller, Jr., Samuel Dwayne Harter and Gary Bueltemann.
Memorials may be made to Joseph C. Middleton, Sr. Memorial for designation by his family.
Arrangements were under the direction of Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown.
