Richard “Red” Swank

Richard “Red” Leon Swank, son of the late Goldie (Smith) Swank and Antrim Swank, was born in Shamokin Dam, Pa., on May 27, 1940. He departed this life at the University Hospital in Columbia, on Dec. 4, 2017, at the age of 77.

Red was a member of the United Methodist Church in Salem. He was an avid outdoorsmen; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers and camping with his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren most of all.

On Oct. 2, 1964, Red was united in marriage to Loraine Anna May Chitwood in Ellington, to this union three children were born. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 1997.

On Jan. 30, 2009, Red was united in marriage to Rita Brawley in Salem. She survives of their home.

Survivors include his loving wife, Rita, of Salem; two sons, Ricky Swank of Salem and Nolan Swank of Bunker; one daughter, Michelle Lynn (Bobby) Turner of Centerville; two sisters, Lola Cowon of Salem and Myrtle Adams of Freeburg; Ten grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends who are left to mourn his passing.

A visitation was held Monday, Dec. 11 at McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. The funeral followed in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Marvin Richards officiating. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem.

Arrangements were under the directon of McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker.
