Helen Joan Floyd

Helen Joan Floyd, 81, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was born December 26, 1936 in Manila, Ark., the daughter of Steve Lipsmeyer and Mildred (Athlene) Lipsmeyer.

Helen was a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and taught English and Journalism for many years at Malden High School. A long time resident of Piedmont, she was a past member of the Piedmont Eagles Ladies Auxillary, The Red Hat Society and had volunteered at Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center.

Helen was married to Marley Brooks and he passed away July 11, 1981. She was then married to Earnest Floyd May 4, 1985, at Piedmont and he passed away Nov. 21, 2010.

Also preceding her in death are her parents, Steve and Mildred Lipsmeyer, her two children, Marla Brooks and Tony Brooks, one brother, James Lipsmeyer and one sister, Mary Ewing.

Survivors include one grandchild, Stephanie Carr, of Oklahoma, her nephew, Larry Kitchen and his wife Cathy, of St. Louis, her niece, Julia Cox, of Walker, Minnesota.

Also surviving are 9 great nieces and nephews, 12 great-great nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.

Graveside services were held on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 with Rev. Don Hutto officiating. Brandon Kitchen, Derek Liter, Hayden Liter, Stephen Kollitz, Josh Kollitz and Jason Wilmes served as Pall Bearers. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel.

Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
