Allen J. Hicks

Allen J. Hicks, age 102, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at the Stockhoff Memorial Nursing Home in Fredericktown. He was born July 13, 1916, at Brooklin, Ark., the son of Charlie Hicks and Paralee (Hargrove) Hicks.

A long time resident of Silva, Allen and his wife operated the Hicks Grocery in Silva for many years. He was a World War II veteran, entering the US Army Jan. 5,1942. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant Oct. 1,1945. Allen was a long time member of the New Hope General Baptist Church in Silva. He was the church caretaker from 1985 to 2008.

Allen was married to Pauline Clubb Oct. 15, 1945, in Piggott, Ark., and she passed away Oct. 25, 2015. Also preceding him in death are his parents, Charlie and Paralee Hicks, 1 son, A. Ross Hicks, 2 daughters, Lois Thompson and Joyce Kee, 1 brother, Earnie Hicks, 2 sisters, Charlene Marshall and Flossie Meynig, as well as 2 great grandchildren, Jordon Harrington and Jason Bolton.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Paula Gorecki and her husband, Michael, of Silva, 1 son in law, Larry Watkins, of Paragould, Ark., 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. He will be very deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at New Hope General Baptist Church in Silva with Pastor Dan Ross officiating. The Ross family provided special music and Jerry Cross, Terry Clubb, Jimmy Clubb, Harold Mills, Ryan Perrine and Roger Cook served as Pall Bearers at the church. Joey Hicks, Rick Watkins, Joshual Allen, Chris Cross, Andrew Adams and Timothy Wineland served as Pall Bearers at the cemetery. Military Honors were provided at graveside by the US Army and the Poplar Bluff VFW Honor Guard. Interment was in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel. Memorials have been requested to the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Fund.
