Virgil ‘Bud’ Williams

Virgil “Bud” Williams, 90 of Piedmont, Mo., passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center, Piedmont, Mo. 

Bud was born Sept. 16, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., to parents Harry and Elzada V. (Vaughn) Williams. Bud was a loving husband, father and grandfather. 

He loved baseball and The St. Louis Cardinals was his favorite team. Bud met the love of his life at a St. Louis Cardinals game, Oza Irene Abbott. They were married May 27, 1954, and spent sixty-four wonderful years together. 

Bud was a smart and steady business man. He and Irene had owned several businesses in Wayne and Reynolds Counties throughout their years together including, Bluff View Café and store, Mercury Outdoor Motor Shop and Kemper’s Hideaway. 

Bud worked at Missouri Boiler and Tank Company for Nooter Corporation thirty-three years before settling in the Piedmont Area. He loved this area so much; he would spend every weekend here. He loved to fish and hunt squirrel and rabbit. 

Bud had a good sense of humor and was a true story teller. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes and spending time with his family at family gatherings and picnics. Bud especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Bud’s family and friends will miss not only him but his strength and personality. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter: Linda Sue; brother: Oscar Guy Williams; sisters: Ruth Ann Schliffet, Margret Jane Milos, Helen Pauline Brown, and Frances Geraldine Ezell. 

Bud is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-four years; children: Gary Leo Brooks and wife Laurie of St. Louis County, Mo., Rosalee Ann Williams and husband George of Newall, Okla., Rebecca DeFrancisco and husband John of Newport, Ore., Sherry Hills and husband John of Piedmont, Mo.; twelve grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 

Visitation was Monday, Feb. 11, 2019 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, Mo.. Funeral service followed at the Piedmont chapel. Pastor Pete Ruble ministered to the family. Gary Brooks, John Hills, Jr. Hills, Jeremiah Hills, John DeFransisco and Boon Pence served as pallbearers. Burial was at Forest Chapel Cemetery, Piedmont, Mo.
