Adele Spitzmiller Townsend
Adele Spitzmiller Townsend, 102, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Iron County, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born October 11, 1917, in Ironton, Missouri, to Jacob H. and Rosa E. Crocker Spitzmiller. She and Albert R. Townsend were married April 17, 1948. They had been married 48 years when Albert passed away December 18, 1996.
Adele graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and later a Specialist Degree in reading. She taught elementary and junior high school in Iron County for more than 20 years.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by many devoted nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers, and a nephew.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to service time, Thursday, December 19, 2019, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral is at 11 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with the Revs. David Conley and Berry Winders officiating. Interment will follow at Arcadia Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Arcadia, Missouri.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Lutheran Home Hospice or Centenary United Methodist Church.
