Ted Houston Howell Sr.

Ted Houston Howell Sr. of Annapolis, Mo., passed away Jan. 31, 2020 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 2 days. He was born Nov. 29, 1933 in Piggott, Arkansas, a son of the late Charley Houston and Grace Anna Ellen Wade Howell. 

On July 19, 1957 he was united in marriage to Artie Thompson who survives. To this union was born three children; Beth England of Ironton, Ted Howell Jr. and wife Monika of Blue Eye, Mo., and September Bennett and husband Derek if Ironton. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; Marcie, Cody, Amy, Dawn, Mindy, Greg, Chase, and Dawson; 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law Darrell England. 

Ted graduated from Piggott High School and received a Bachelors degree in education from South East Missouri State University. He taught High School History at South Iron High School until he retired in 1990. He also coached basketball and Volleyball, and was a bus driver. He was elected Southern Commissioner of Iron County, served as Mayor of Annapolis, was a member of the Glover Baptist Church and Church Deacon, and belonged to The Gideons International. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. from Cole Family Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Alcorn officiating. Visitation will begin Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m.. Interment will be in the Glover Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials are requested to The Gideons International.
