Randall Lee Cox
Randall Lee Cox of Arcadia, Mo., passed away Feb. 3, 2020, in St. Louis, MO at the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 1 day. He was born May 2, 1939 in Leadwood, MO, a son of the late George Marvin and Margaret Lucille Tedder Cox.
He was united in marriage to Helen Cox who preceded him in death. On Oct. 25, 1985 he married Dorothy Koenig Scott who survives. Also surviving are four children; Lisa Fitzgerald and husband Neil of Middlebrook, Carla Cox of Festus, Jonathan Scott, and Betsy Turner and husband Corby both of Arcadia. Also surviving are a brother Alvin Cox of Fenton; one sister, Janet Vasel of Fenton, 4 grandchildren; Douglas, Ryan, Elisha, and Libby; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Ezra, a sister-in-law Brenda Cox, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and David Cox.
Randall was a 1957 graduate of Leadwood High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from SEMO in Cape Girardeau. He taught Social Studies at Arcadia Valley High School for 27 years, retiring in 1992. For many years, Randall was Sports Writer for the Mountain Echo Newspaper, covering all of Arcadia Valley High School Sporting Events.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was the #1 Fan of the Arcadia Valley Tigers. He wrote many books on the History of High School Sports in the surrounding area. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ironton, and also belonged to the Iron county Historical Society and Iron County Genealogy Society.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at Cole Family Funeral Home with Elder Mark Sutton officiating. Visitation was Thursday. A private family interment service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Iron County Historical Society.
