James Lowell “Buck” Ramsey Sr.
James Lowell “Buck” Ramsey Sr., son of the late Eva Josephine Castleberry Ramsey Hancock and Walter Lee Ramsey, was born in Auburndale, Florida, on December 20, 1930. He departed this life at St. Francois Healthcare in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on February 21, 2020, at the age of 89.
On April 27, 1955, in Waycross, Georgia, Buck was united in marriage to Polly Jean Wilson and to this union four children were born. He was a paratrooper in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Buck was a born again Christian and loved to witness about the love of Christ by sharing gospel music. Buck and Polly attended the Van Buren Assembly of God and after moving to Ellington they attended the Centerville Assembly of God. He enjoyed building things, doing yard work, and working on computers until his vision and health deteriorated.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, and one brother, William D. Ramsey.
Buck is survived by three sons, James Lowell “Jim” Ramsey Jr. (Karen) of Hueytown, Alabama, Barry Ashley Ramsey (Mary Ann) of Beverly Hills, Florida, Kelly Eric Ramsey (Kelly) of Bunker, Missouri, and one daughter, Dana Hope McSpadden (Jeffrey) of Ellington, Missouri, four grandchildren, Kourtney McSpadden Green, Chase Ramsey (Beth), Barry Ashley Ramsey II (Nicole), and Kory Ramsey, three step-grandchildren, Jimmy McSpadden (Destiny), Nicholas McSpadden (Tiffany), and Laura McSpadden, and 12 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Annie Geraldine King of Gainesville, Florida. Buck will be deeply missed by his family that will mourn his passing.
Visitation was Wednesday, February 26, and funeral services followed at McSpadden Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Stewart ministered to the family.
Burial was in Ellington Memorial Cemetery.
