James “Bill” W Payne
Bill began his new life strolling the streets of gold in Heaven on June 16, 2020, at the age of 71.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ronnie Payne, and Johnny Payne.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Joslyn Payne of 44 years, his son and best friend Cory Payne and wife Dona of Greenville and his son Greg Payne of West Portsmouth, Ohio.
Bill was the proud grandfather, best buddy, and partner in crime to his three grandchildren, Bryna Payne, Kaytlin Payne and Ryan Payne, all of Greenville. He is also survived by his siblings, Tommy “Junior” Payne, Ristol Payne, Linda Lloyd and Ricky Payne and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bill entered the United States Army at the age of eighteen, where he served in the Vietnam War and received a purple heart for his service before he was honorably discharged. After leaving the military, Bill was employed as a Maintenance Mechanic for many years. Bill was a dedicated member of Kime General Baptist Church where he served as song leader for many years. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music with his son, Cory and singing at church but most of all he enjoyed spoiling his three grandchildren.
Bill was a wonderful friend to many, and his sense of humor will forever live on. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation was Friday, June 19, 2020, at Kime General Baptist Church. Funeral service followed also at Kime General Baptist Church. Pastor John Meese, Pastor Scott Crane, and Pastor Kenny Burchard ministered to the family. Steven Crane gave a heartfelt eulogy. Ryan Payne, Junior Payne, Cory Payne, Steven Crane, John Payne, and Robert Elder served as pallbearers. Jesse Birmingham, and Marc Crane served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was at Missouri State Veteran Cemetery, Bloomfield, with full military honors provided by the United States Army and American Legion Post 382.
