Burkett Wins Special Election, Will Go Up Against Shipman in November

Former Iron County Deputy Jeff Burkett is now the new Republican candidate for Iron County Sheriff for the November 3 election. 

In unofficial results, Burkett received 715 votes in a Special Election held on Tuesday.  Incumbent Roger Medley came in second with 457 votes.  Behind Medley, Ben Starnes received 318 votes.  Brian Matthiesen received 137 votes, and James Womble came in last with 90 votes. 

Only 27.72% of voters turned out for this Special Election.  There were a total of 1,717 votes cast, out of Iron County’s 6,195 registered voters.  

Burkett will run against Independent candidate Hershel Shipman in the Nov. 3 General Election for Iron County Sheriff.
