Lady Tigers Beat Doniphan

Clearwater beat Doniphan in 5 sets during volleyball action Tuesday evening, Sept. 22. The Lady Tigers won the first set 25-23, but lost the second set 15-25. Clearwater won the fourth set 25-20,  ad Doniphan took the fourth game 19-25. The Lady Tigers won the deciding match 15-13.
“As a team we had 8 aces,” said Coach Lisa Ayers. “We missed too many serves when we needed them to be good.  We work on serving aggressively but there are times when you can’t afford to miss a serve.  These girls will have to learn to play whatever position and on whichever team that they are needed for that game. This year we must learn to roll with the punches.
“We had two freshmen, Lauren Wheelehon and Abby Cheney, and three other players with little varsity experience playing last night,” Ayers continued.  “So, we are going to see a lot of matches that will go to 5 sets. The girls that are on both JV and V don’t give up.  That makes a huge difference.
Coach Ayers said that the coaching staff has moved one of their seniors, Emilee Chitwood, into the setting position. She will be a good leader for the team, according to Ayers.
“She has played many different roles for us over her four years of volleyball,” Ayers said.  “Another senior, Laci Brown has really stepped up this year and continues to be one of our go to hitters.  She had 8 kills for us last night.”
