Murder Thursday Morning in Wappapello

A Poplar Bluff woman is dead after being allegedly murdered by her boyfriend in an early morning shooting at Wappapello. The victim was identified as Lelena Kaye Guard, 52, of Poplar Bluff.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department was called at 1:05 a.m. about shots fired in the Piso Point area. Officers arrived on the scene at 1:40 a.m. Sheriff Dean Finch said that it was a small camping trailer on a lot. Officers knocked on the door and a man later identified as Bobbie Leroy Aden, 54, answered the door. Finch said that Aden was covered in blood and stated his girlfriend was dead.

Aden was secured in cuffs and Mirandized, Finch said. “He told authorities that he had shot her after she had shot herself,” Finch said. “Officers secured the scene and called Sheriff Finch.

Sheriff Dean Finch and Chief Deputy John England responded. Sheriff Finch also requested the Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control assist. After an investigation, Aden was arrested. Sheriff Finch said that a warrant for first-degree murder has been applied requested.

An autopsy is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Farmington on Friday.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Sheriff Finch. More information will be released at a later time.
