Lynndel Kent Barnes

Lynndel Kent Barnes

 March 19, 1941 – February 2, 2021.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Lynndel was born March 19, 1941 to William “Ray” Barnes and Nellie “Carolyn” (Honaker) Barnes in Redford, MO.  He passed unexpectedly on February 2, 2021 in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Lynndel was united in marriage to Zelma Harrison on July 6, 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Together they raised four children:  Kent Barnes of Garwood, MO; Karen Kubiak of Washington, MO; Carmen (Michael) Morris of Holts Summit, MO; and Tina Barnes of Ellington, MO.  He has eight beloved grandchildren:  Travis (Valerie) Barnes, Arielle Chwascinski, Ryan Barnes, Jenna Chwascinski, Devin Barnes, Kendra Barnes, Emily Morris, and Grace Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Raymond and Nellie Carolyn (Honaker) Barnes; his brother, Norman (Jeannie) Barnes.

He is survived by his wife, Zelma, and their children and grandchildren; his sisters, Raylene (late Donald) Heitman, Sharon (Jim) Fowler; his brothers, Fred (Jerry) Barnes, and Jerry (late Phyllis) Barnes; and many others who will mourn his passing.

Lynndel was a faithful servant to God and his community.  He attended Redford Church of the Nazarene in Redford, MO before moving to Jefferson City, MO and attending Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Holts Summit, MO.  He was a carpenter by trade and “retired” several times from owning a business, service on several local boards, and 18 years of service on the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department including several years as Fire Chief.  Never able to sit still, he liked to say, “It is better to wear out than rust out”.

Through all his service, his favorite thing was the time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.  In Lieu of Flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia Society.
