Helen ‘Corky’ Huitt

Helen Marie “Corky” Huitt, age 92 of Patterson, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont. She was born May 18, 1928 in Flat River, MO, the daughter of Clarence and Ina (Miller) Bess.
Helen was married to Earl “Dick” Huitt September 14, 1946 in Ironton. She was a 1946 graduate of Lesterville High School and along with her husband Dick owned and operated Bluff View Boat Dock for 12 years. She was the secretary for the IPLA in Silva and for 12 years and served on the Board of Directors for Piedmont Farm Bureau for 34 years. A long time resident of Patterson, she was a member of Patterson Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death is her husband Earl Huitt, her parents, Clarence and Ina Bess, 2 sisters, Edna Louise Jones and Norma Ruth Goggin, 3 brothers in law, Tom Jones, Charles Goggin and Cliff Cauley.
Survivors include her son, Gary Huitt and his wife Frances, of Patterson, 2 brothers, Cecil Bess and his wife Joan, of St. Peters, MO, Larry Bess and his wife Maririta, of San Antonio, TX and one sister, Carol Cauley, of St. Louis, MO.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Cari Buchholz and her husband Chris, John Huitt and his fiancee Stephanie Boese, Ryan Huitt and his wife Erica, Sarah Moody and her husband Chris, 7 grandchildren, Andrew Buchholz, Kaidence, Adrian, and Kelsey Huitt, Avery, Camden and Easton Moody, and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the Morrison Funeral Chapel in Piedmont with Rev. Jule Maskrod and Rev. Don Hutto officiating. Special recorded songs were played for the service and Craig Shearrer, Ryan Huitt, John Huitt, Mike Bess, Dale Cauley, Chris Moody and Chris Buchholz served as Pall Bearers. Interment was in the Mt. View Cemetery at Des Arc under the direction of Morrison Funeral Chapel. Memorials have been suggested to the Patterson Baptist Church.
