Edward “Ed” Seitz

Edward “Ed” Seitz, 91, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center, Piedmont, MO. Ed was born September 8, 1929 to parents Edward and Lester Virginia Ann (Hickman) Seitz, at Piedmont, MO.

On June 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Opal “Joann” Seitz and they spent forty-nine happy years together.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Joann; brother, Fredrick Seitz; sisters: Dorothy Mae Seitz,  Ed’s twin sister Lessie Rae Pettet; and his niece: Beth Pettet-Stephenson.

Ed is survived by nieces and nephews: Patrick Seitz of Hixson, TN, Mike Seitz of Farmington, MO. Renee Seitz-Lowry of Manchester, MO and Carol Ann Pettet-Newara of Oklahoma City, OK. Close family members Marsha Earl of Colgate, WI and Donald Thompson of Idaho Falls, ID.

He served his country in the United States Air Force in Germany. After military service he continued his teaching career beginning at Greenville, MO, and ending at Riverview Gardens School District, St. Louis, MO.

Ed was a good man and always a gentleman. He was often seen around Piedmont with a kind word and a gentle spirit. In later years he was active in Piedmont community with Rotary Club, in which he was past president. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason. He was a very active member at Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as small group coordinator, facilitator, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the church choir.

He enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife and family to St. Petersburg, FL and to Galveston, TX, Germany, and many other locations for vacations. Ed grew up in an era of passenger trains, a fascination that he kept all his life where memories of riding the train to watch the St. Louis Browns with his brother Fred were prevalent.  Ed always kept up with his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, player trades, stats, and all things Cardinals. He was also a collector of antiques. Ed Seitz will be deeply missed by his family and the Piedmont community.

Living flowers and plants are welcome.  However, if you prefer, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont, MO.

Visitation for Ed was held Friday, June 18, 2021, at 5:00 pm, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. Masonic Services followed at 7:00 pm, Friday, also at the funeral home chapel. Funeral services for Ed were held on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 10:00 am, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, MO. Pastor W. Michael Woods ministered to the family. Jeff Redford, Eric Miniea, Donald Bahannan, Don Thompson, Gray Umfleet and Keith Mahal served as pallbearers. Burial took place at Lorimier Cemetery, Cape Girardeau, MO, with full military honors provided by Arnold Hodge Post #281, Piedmont, MO, which Ed was a twenty year member.  Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com
