Barbara Laux McCoy
Barbara Laux McCoy, of Ironton, MO, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the age of 71 years, surrounded by her family. She was born April 27, 1950 in St. Louis, MO, to Vernon “Bud” and Jeanne Streckfus Meesey. On May 23, 1998, Barb was united in marriage to John McCoy who preceded her in death on February 22, 2012. Barb is survived by her three children; Becky Brockett (Aaron Vencenz) Webster Groves, MO, Amanda Brockett (Hunter Buchmeyer) Austin TX, Logan Brockett (Jessika Fowler) Boulder, CO. Two step-daughters; Amy Spurger (Mike) Alba TX, and Melissa Monroe Austin TX. Barb was one of 13 children. Six brothers; Pete Meesey (Peggy) Ironton, MO, Joe Meesey (Joan) Eugene OR, John Meesey (Gerri) Kirkwood, MO, Paul Meesey (Carla) Chesterfield, MO, Mike Meesey (Kyle) Florissant, MO, Christopher Meesey (Nancy) Springfield, MO. Six sisters; Mary (Mike) Patterson, Wentzville, MO, Jeanne (Bill) Erker, Fenton, MO, Nancy (Terry) Pitts Greer SC, Susie (Jim) Carr Orting WA, Patti (Larry) Johnson Ironton MO, Ellen (Frank) Harris, Ironton, MO. Nine grandchildren; Avery, Zachery, Sarah, Kate, Abbey, Owen, Isaac, Nicholas, and Josephine. And numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and brother-in-law Larry Johnson. For nearly 50 years, Barb worked as a nurse. She began her career as an L.P.N. in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at University Hospital, Columbia, MO. She continued her studies to complete her R.N. and went on to work in the medical clinic at St. Louis University. After she married, Barb and John moved to Mesquite, TX where she began working at Parkland Medical Center in the NICU. In 2008 they moved to the family “farm” that has been in the Meesey family for nearly 60 years. She finished out her amazing nursing career here in Ironton at the Iron County Health Center. Barb was a member of the Ste. Marie du Lac Catholic Church family, the Ladies Sodality, and the regular Wednesday lunches and yearly travel adventures with the unofficial “Wednesday Lunch Bunch”!!! A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Ste. Marie DuLac for Barb on Friday August 6, 2021 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ste. Marie du Lac and would be greatly appreciated.
