Betty Jo (Sutterfield) Black

Betty Jo (Sutterfield) Black formerly of Lesterville, MO entered Heaven on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 4 days. She was born September 17, 1926 in Black, MO to the late Guy Lester and Ruth Mae Sutterfield. On July 8, 1945 she was united in marriage to Herman Eugene Black who preceded her in rest on March 22, 1997. To this union two daughters were born, Katana Gregory and husband Mike of Ironton, MO, and Dona Ruth Giron and husband Gerry of Chula Vista, CA, both of whom survive. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Lindsay Davis and Ryan Gregory, one great-grandchild Hunter Davis, and many other loving family members and friends. Betty Jo is preceded in rest by her parents, her husband Herman, three sisters; Shirley Ann Moroni, Peggy Williams, and Vicki Willhelm, and one brother Albert Lester “Junior” Sutterfield. For most of Betty’s life she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lesterville until the last several years when she joined the Pilot Knob Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter and was a member of the “Unofficial Quilting Club” with her friends from the Lesterville and surrounding areas. Also, while her husband Herman was serving our country in the United States Army, Betty worked in ceramics on base. Betty Jo will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 11:00 am from the Cole Family Funeral Home in Ironton. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment will follow the services in the Myers Cemetery in Oates, MO. Rev. Scott Edgar will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations and memorials be made to the Pilot Knob Baptist Church (Building Fund) or The Gideons International. Online condolences may be made at
