Zelma Jane Rogers
Zelma Jane Rogers, age 78 of Lowndes, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born December 2, 1942 in Rhodes, MI, the daughter of Frank and Francis (Hathaway) Currie.
A long time resident of Lowndes, Zelma drove a school bus and was the head cook at Greenville Schools for over 25 years, retiring in 2005. She was a board member, dispatcher and treasurer for the Lowndes Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Community Church of Christ and was active in the church Ladies Club.
Zelma was married to Ronald Rogers July 2, 1960 in Rhodes, MI and he passed away February 25, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Francis Currie and 2 sons, Dewayne Rogers and Greg Rogers.
Survivors include 3 children, Chris Rogers, of Lowndes, Andrew Rogers and his wife Elizabeth, of Cary, NC, Lisa Joplin and her husband Dean, of Lowndes, 2 daughters in law, Belinda Rogers, of Lowndes, Linda Rogers, of Wappapello; 6 brothers, Earl, Ervin, Roger and Norman Currie, all of Michigan, Bill Currie, of Seattle, WA, David Currie, of Dexter, MO; 5 sisters, Janet Allen, Donna Swinson, Debbie Novy and Suzy Ferguson, all of Michigan, and Bonnie Fischer, of Lowndes.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Community Church of Christ near Lowndes with Bro. Dale Rogers, Bro. Jeremy Rogers and Bro. Jack Rogers officiating. The church choir provided special music and tributes were given for Zelma. Travis Rogers, Jerry Rogers, Jeff Rogers, Tim Lemons, D.R. Barks, Paul Cox and Mike Randleman served as Pall Bearers. Interment was in the Rogers Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Chapel.
