Carl L. Lunyou

Carl L. Lunyou, 82, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center, Piedmont, MO. He was born January 8, 1939, on Otter Creek, near Piedmont, MO to parents Edward and Opal (Seals) Lunyou Sr. Carl was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was united in marriage to Linda Waites on Jan. 31, 1960, and to this union two children were born.

Carl and Linda have resided on Clark’s Creek since they were married in 1960. His family was very dear to him, and each family member could share a special time or a lesson that Carl taught, from the importance of hard work to maintaining close family relationships. He was a Christian and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for many years before becoming a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont. He would not sing in public, but while in the nursing home he sang all the time, usually the old church hymns. His favorite song was I Won’t Have to Cross Jordan Alone.

Carl had served his country in the United States Army. While he was in the Army, one of his duties consisted of special duty guard at John F. Kennedy’s funeral. He was proud of his service but sure missed Wayne County. Through the years he had worked at Johnson Oil in his early years, Duncan Brothers Ready Mix, logged, and lastly worked for nearly forty years at Certainteed at Gad’s Hill as a haul truck driver. He loved to farm and was well known for his red angus cows, in which he took great pride in his herd and had lived on Clark’s Creek for many years. He always had a watchful eye and once even chased a mountain lion through the field in his old chevy! Other than being with his loving wife, Carl was happiest with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his loving and devoted wife of sixty-one years; he is survived by son, John Lunyou and his wife Deborah; daughter, Rhonda Lunyou; grandchildren: Michelle Brand and husband Tate, Elaina Lunyou, Tyler Lunyou, and Luke Lunyou; sister-in-law Patricia Lunyou all of Piedmont, MO.
