Dr. Jackson “Jack” Fitzgerald

Dr. Jackson “Jack” Fitzgerald, 81, of Pevely, Missouri departed this life at his home in Pevely on Friday, September 24, 2021. Jack is preceded in death by his son; Scott, sisters; Maxine Sutton , Ruth Bunch, and Phyllis Fitzgerald, brother Ted Fitzgerald, and his parents John and Gertrude Fitzgerald.

Jack is survived by his wife, Virginia Fitzgerald of Pevely, MO, son Patrick Fitzgerald of St. Charles, MO, daughter-in-law, Doretha of Pevely, MO, grandson Thomas of Pevely, MO, sister Karen Dhuwalia of Davie, FL, a host of nieces and nephews, along with many dear family and friends.

Jack served as an elementary teacher in La Grange, WY for one year. For the next 29 years of his professional career he served as a high school teacher in Crystal City, MO. He served Crystal City High School as the Director of Special Education, and multiple yearbooks have been dedicated in his honor since then.

After he retired, he was an assistant professor at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO., as well as Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO., supervising student teachers.

Jack also volunteered many hours at home and in nursing homes caring for elderly loved ones and many other elderly residents. In his free time he loved to watch Cardinals baseball, take care of his garden, especially his tomatoes, and watching animals. Jack, throughout his life, lived a life of service for others.

Please join the family to celebrate Jack’s life on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Mahn Twin City Chapel, Festus, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Black River Cemetery in Black, MO.
