Helen Louise Black

Helen Louise Black, daughter of the late Volney B. Fox and Erna R. (Russell) Fox, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 21, 1930. She departed this life at her residence in St. Elmo, Illinois, on November 3, 2021, at the age of 91.

Helen and Jay Dee Black were married for over 70 years and to this loving union three daughters were born. Jay preceded her in death on October 11, 2004. Helen was a proud and active member in the order of the Eastern Star Meridian Chapter 442-OES for 58 years. She enjoyed collecting rocks, gardening flowers and fruit trees, boating and fishing, scrapbooking and going to auctions.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Volney and Erna Fox, her loving husband, Jay Black, and one brother, Robert Leon Fox.

Helen is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Dean Doedtman and husband John of Vandalia, Illinois, Christine Louise Robertson-Barnes and husband Adam of St. Charles, Missouri, and Kimberli Renee Cox of Alexandria, Virginia, 4 grandchildren, Dennis, Brandon, Devon and Antonia, and 3 great-grandchildren, Bria, Connor and Daycee. Helen will be deeply missed by her family and friends who will mourn her passing.

Visitation was Friday, November 12, 2021, 10AM-12PM at McSpadden Funeral Home, Ellington, Missouri.Funeral followed at 12PM.Minister was Pastor Jim Stewart. Music was performed by Brandon M. Robertson (grandson) – “The Old Rugged Cross”. Burial was at Ellington Memorial Cemetery.
