Richard “Dick” Ross Strickland

Richard “Dick” Ross Strickland of Ironton, Mo., entered into rest on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the age of 85 Years, 9 Months 8 Days. Dick was born in Bonne Terre, Mo., to the late Emile Welton and Pauline Adline (Ross) Strickland.

On May 7, 1966, Dick was united in marriage to Mary Jane Glore who preceded him in rest on March 6, 2021. To this union two daughters were born, Thela Marie Strickland of Ironton, Mo., who survives and Jane Ellen Smith who preceded them in rest on July 30, 2012. Other survivors include a sister-in-law Jan Reeves and husband Ken of Arcadia, Mo., and many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

As a young man Dick served his country in the United States Army and then later went on to receive his Master’s Degree in education from Southeast Missouri University.

He was an elementary school art teacher for many years until his retirement 30 years ago. After he retired he followed his passion and worked on genealogy with his wife Jane and a few close friends.

Together they were members of the St. Clair Genealogy club in Belleville, Ill., they loved cats and a few select dogs, and were members of the Presbyterian Church of Farmington, Mo. Dick will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A

Visitation for Dick was held on Thursday, May 05, at Cole Family Chapel. A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, May 06, 2022 at Farmington Presbyterian Church. Interment followed the services in the St. Francois Memorial Park. Pastor Racquel Tomacruz officiated the services.
