Let’s Cook!

Linda Hoskins

With fall season upon us, it’s time to be thinking “apples”!  R. K. Kirch of St. Clair County has sent  two apple recipes for us to try.  I have not tried either of these yet, but I think this first one will please those who like apple pie, but dread making pie crust.

No Crust Apple Pie

   submitted by R.K. Kirch

1/2 cup butter

3/4 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp baking powder

1 cup flour

5 apples

Slice apples, put into baking dish (pie plate). Stir together remaining ingredients, spread over the apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Apple Pudding

   submitted by R.K. Kirch

2/3 cup sugar

1/3 cup flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/8 tsp salt

1/2 cup chopped nuts

1 egg, beaten

1 tsp vanilla

2 cups apples, peeled, cored and grated

Sift dry ingredients. Add egg, vanilla, nuts and apples. Pour into a greased 8 inch baking dish. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

She also included this recipe for dog treats. It calls for bacon drippings so you know your dog is gonna love these! It sounds like a great way to use up that bacon grease.

Canine Treats

   submitted by R.K. Kirch

1 1/2 cup wheat flour

1 cup flour

1 cup milk powder

1/3 cup bacon drippings

1 egg

1 cup cold water

Combine flours and milk powder. Drizzle with bacon drippings. Add egg and water. Mix well. Roll out 1/2 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters or cut in desired shapes. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 300 degrees for 60 minutes.
