Barbara A. Brown
Barbara A. Brown, age 85, formerly of Piedmont, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Delmar Gardens O’Fallon Skilled Nursing Center. She was born September 13, 1937, in Piedmont, MO, the daughter of John W. Barrett and Emma A. (Lunyou) Barrett. Barbara was employed at several companies during her lifetime; however, her main occupations were that of an excellent homemaker and caretaker of her family. She grew up in Piedmont and attended school in the Piedmont School District.
In 1955, Barbara married Jesse J. Brown, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her parents, John and Emma Barrett, 6 brothers, Lee, Willard, Kenneth, Bill, Ron and Delmo Barrett, 2 sisters, Virginia DeSha and Betty Garrett, and one son-in-law, Larry Richerson.
Barbara lived in Piedmont and Annapolis, later moving to St. Louis and House Springs. In 1971, she returned to Piedmont and then Salem, MO, finally retiring in Piedmont during the 1980’s, where she lived for over 40 years with her husband before moving to Lake St. Louis, MO. She was baptized into the First Baptist church of Piedmont as a young woman and had been a member of Friendship Baptist church in Piedmont. She enjoyed serving in church throughout her life, reading and studying the Bible, and being involved in church activities teaching children in Sunday School and VBS. She also enjoyed volunteering at nursing homes in Piedmont and Ironton and coordinated a program to visit local homebound and elderly in the community.
Barbara was a faithful Christian, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a loyal friend. Family, faith and friends were the center of her life, and she also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, listening to Christian music and programs, traveling with family, and helping others through the years. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and her two new great grandchildren.
Survivors include one brother, Carl Barrett, of Piedmont, 3 children, Jessie Lashley and her husband Greg, of O’Fallon, MO, Rhonda Richerson, of Lake Saint Louis, MO, Tim Brown,of Lake St. Louis, MO; 5 grandchildren, Andrew Lashley, of O’Fallon, MO, Benjamin Lashley and his wife Ashley, of Louisville, KY, Austin Brown, of Farmington, MO, Westen Brown, of St. Louis, MO and Kameron Richerson, of Springfield, MO; two great granddaughters, Eleanor Brown, of Farmington, MO and Sadie Lashley of Louisville, KY, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Morrison Funeral Chapel in Piedmont with Pastor Don Hutto officiating. A special recorded song was played and Benjamin Lashley provided special music. Greg Lashley, Andrew Lashley, Benjamin Lashley, Tim Brown, Austin Brown, Dennis Barrett, Bob DeSha and Scott Barrett served as Pall Bearers. Weston Brown and Neal Barrett served as Honorary Pall Bearers. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Chapel. Memorials have been requested to the National Kidney Foundation or the Pathways Hospice of Chesterfield.
