Samuel Lee Young
Samuel Lee Young of Annapolis, Missouri passed away January 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 31, 1928 in Minimum, Missouri the son of the late Winford and Janie (Douglas) Young.
On September 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Cox. He cherished her for seventy years until she preceded him in death on April 29, 2016. To this union four children were born: Betty “Betsy” Case of Campbell, Missouri, Bryan E. Young who preceded him in death, Faron Young of Des Arc, Missouri and Gwen Pratt of Annapolis, Missouri. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren, his cousin Helen Jackson of Riverside, California as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and son, Sam was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Tina Young and his son-in-law, Steve Pratt, his great grandson, William Samuel Pratt, and all of his siblings.
Sam worked many jobs throughout his life. He was a lifelong mechanic and could fix or build anything. He was the owner of a local mechanic shop. He built boom loaders and skidders for many of the local logging companies and he also worked as a logger. Sam was a welder and was a member of Steelworkers Local ??. He worked on the St. Louis Arch, Busch Stadium, the book depository, and barges on the Mississippi. He worked on the construction of SGI in Annapolis. Sam also served Iron County as a Deputy Sherriff for many years. When he wasn’t busy working Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, gigging and camping with his family. Sam was raised in the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Eugene Alcorn officiating. Visitation began at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment was in Annapolis Cemetery.
