They made their home in Ellington, Missouri, where they owned and operated Pewitt Funeral Home for nearly 50 years. In 2002, they moved to Cape Girardeau to be near their children and grandchildren. Sue and Bud had been married nearly 59 years when Bud passed away October 29, 2008.
Sue’s family was the love of her life. She had ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and attending their school events was Sue’s top priority. Sue also enjoyed playing the organ, weaving, watercolor painting, ceramics, music, dancing, and especially spending time with her family. Sue loved gardening and obtained her certification as a Master Gardener from the Garden Club of Missouri.
Sue was a faithful member of Maple United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, and a former member of Ellington United Methodist Church. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life.”
Loving survivors include three children and their spouses, Susan (Lonnie) Stroder and Dr. Charles S. Pewitt of Jackson, and Dr. Julia (Mitch) Kinder of Brentwood, Tennessee. Sue asked that her life be celebrated. Please share your memories online with the family by clicking on the tribute wall tab above Sue’s obituary article at mccombsfuneralhome.com. Sue would want to be remembered when you hear Glenn Miller’s Orchestra, see a dogwood tree, and when you plant flowers this spring.
