Roy ‘Gene’ Williams
Roy ‘Gene’ Williams, son of the late Virgil and LuLu Williams, was born in St.
Louis, Missouri, on June 11, 1925. He departed this life at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri, on May 16, 2023, having attained the age of 97 years, 11 months, and 5 days.
Gene was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a machinist in the
725th Ordinance Maintenance Company in the Korean War. Gene was honorably discharged on June 31, 1953, due to wounds received as a result of action with enemy forces on December 6, 1952. For his service, Gene received a Purple Heart, the UN Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and an Overseas bar.
Gene enjoyed spending time with family and friends, working on his farm and operating his various pieces of machinery.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and LuLu Williams, brothers, Denver McCabe, Paul Williams, Floyd Williams, Gerald Williams, and Willard Williams, sisters, Wilma Phillips, Christene Sanders, Oneita Sutherland, and Moleane Barenz, a daughter, Deborah Williams, and one grandchild, Shannon Williams.
Gene is survived by his wife, Sherely “Sug” Williams, his sons Steve Williams and Roy Williams and wife Shelly, his daughter, Sheila Williams, and grandchildren, Dione StLuka, Clinton Eugene Williams, Morgan Williams, John Roy Williams, and sister, Jewel Narramore.
Graveside service with military honors was held May 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
Pastor Doug Massie ministered.
Burial was at Ellington Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Lillo, James Jones, Andy Jenson, Ted Wilkening, Doug Parrish, Kendell Wisdom.
