Mary Ann Nelson

Mary Ann Nelson, age 79, of Cherry Valley, AR, formerly of Piedmont, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Flo-Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR. She was born April 21, 1944 in Piedmont, the daughter of Richard Smith and Mary (Wallen) Smith.

Mary Ann was a retired river boat cook for Material Service Corp and was of the Baptist faith.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Richard and Mary Smith, 3 brothers, Bobby Smith, Clifford Smith and Roger Smith and 1 sister, Geneva Stanley.

Survivors include 6 sons, Robert Shawn Smith, Richard Lee Smith and Kevin Christopher Smith, all of Harrisburg, AR, Samuel Dale Nelson, of Forrest City, AR, John Douglas Nelson, of Norwood, MO, David Lee Nelson, of Granby, MO; as well as 1 sister, Anna Davis, of Piedmont.

In addition she is survived by 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Morrison Funeral Chapel in Piedmont with Bro. Gene Davis officiating. Special recorded songs were played for the service and Shawn Smith, David Nelson, Scott Barrett, Dakota Smith, Donnavon Cureton, and Dalton Harrison served as Pallbearers. Delmar McGhee served as an Honorary Pallbearer.

Interment was in the Clay Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Chapel.
