Neil Douglas Fitzgerald
Neil Douglas Fitzgerald, son of Charles Douglas and Nina Scott Fitzgerald, was born on August 18, 1958, in Steelville, MO. He departed this life at Barnes Hospital on July 7, 2023, at the age of 64.
On December 13, 1986 in Ironton, Missouri, Neil was united in marriage to Lisa Cox and to this loving union two sons were born. Neil graduated from Lesterville in 1977. He was saved and baptized at the age of eight. Neil was a member of the Iron Mountain First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and on various committees. Neil was a member of the Lesterville Alumni Association and served as president for two years. He enjoyed farming and working on cars and tractors. His greatest joy was spending time with his two boys and his grandchildren.
He attended Linn State in Automobile Mechanics and went to ITT for Diesel Mechanics. Neil worked for several automobile dealers, mostly Ford, taking every training course offered, obtaining the title of Master Mechanic for Ford.
At the age of 16, he contracted Aplastic Anemia, which resulted in the need for a bone marrow transplant. He received the transplant at the National Institutional of Health in Bethesda, MD. His sister, Gwen, provided the bone marrow. By God’s grace and prayers of thousands of Christians, God performed many miracles in Neil’s life and he was able to live an additional 48 years.
Neil was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Lora Fitzgerald, Freeman and Elsie Scott, brother-in-law, Michael Lynn Edgar, and his in-laws, Randall and Helen Cox and Dorothy Scott Cox.
Neil is survived by his parents, Douglas and Nina Fitzgerald, and his wife, Lisa Fitzgerald, all of Middle Brook, MO. He is also survived by his two sons, Freeman Douglas and wife Jesica, of House Springs, MO, Ryan Tyler Fitzgerald and wife Kelsey, of Ironton, MO, four grandchildren, Hannah, Ezra, Isaac, and Elijah Fitzgerald, three sisters, Gwen Dale Edgar of Desloge, MO, Sammye Gail White and husband Dennis of Arcadia, MO, Scottye Gean Adkins and husband Eric of Park Hills, MO, sisters-in-law, Carla Cox and Betsy (Scott) Turner and husband Corby, and brother-in-law, Jonathan Scott. Neil will be deeply missed by all of his numerous family members and friends.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 11th from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Iron Mountain First Baptist Church. Funeral Services: Wednesday, July 12th at 11 AM at the Iron Mountain First Baptist Church.
