Last year 22 local businesses and organizations participated in the 1st Annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest during the Ozark Heritage Festival. During the weeks leading up to the event, unique scarecrows depicting the business they represented began showing up throughout the area. People were invited to visit the businesses and vote for their favorite scarecrow. On the Saturday of the festival, all of the scarecrows were moved to the greenway for final viewing and voting. At the end of the day the St. Catherine’s Outreach Center was declared the official winner and all donations were given to the Clearwater School Foundation.
This year, the contest returns and businesses are already making plans for their entries. Some scarecrows are even making an early appearance, such as the one in front of the Piedmont License Office. Beginning October 8th you can begin voting for your favorite by leaving donations with the business of any amount from $1 and up. On Saturday, October 21st, all scarecrows will be displayed on the greenway where you have until 3pm to vote for your favorite. The winner will be determined by the one who receives the most donations. All money collected will help fund the future Piedmont-UFO Capital of Missouri Park.
