Naomi Lucille Thorsland

Naomi Lucille Thorsland, 100, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025. She was born in Mt. Vernon, IL, November 28, 1924, to parents John Eric and Ailyion (Nickens) Thorsland, Naomi lived a life marked by kindness, service, and quiet strength.

Naomi’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend, remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love. A bright and dedicated student, Naomi graduated as salutatorian of her class, setting the tone for a life of diligence and commitment. She served for many years as the post mistress of the Leeper Post Office before concluding her professional career with Brown Shoe Company in Piedmont.

Naomi’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. A longtime and faithful member of the First Christian Church in Mill Spring, she lived by the values of compassion and service. She was a woman of many talents, particularly known for her masterful crochet work, lovingly creating handmade pieces that were treasured by her family and friends. A voracious reader and lifelong learner, Naomi found joy in the written word and in the quiet rhythms of crafting.

In 1998, Naomi and her beloved sister June relocated from Leeper to Imperial, later settling in Hazelwood. In her later years, she found great joy in doting on her great-great-nephew and niece, Spencer and Piper, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Her legacy is one of quiet grace, steadfast faith, and the deep affection of a family and community who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Bill and John Thorsland; sister: June Thorsland.

Naomi is survived by her loving sisters-in-law: Maggie Thorsland of Leeper and Mary Thorsland of Arnold; nieces: Teresa Buresh of Piedmont, Jeanie Anderson of Eminence, and Johnda Meaux and husband Greg of Hazelwood; nephew: Leon Henson; two cherished Godchildren; many great and great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who held her dear.

A life well lived, a soul deeply loved — Naomi Lucille Thorsland will be remembered always.

Visitation was held at 5:00 pm, Friday, August 8, 2025, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service was held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 9, 2025, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Richard Sanders ministered to family and Leon Henson, Scott Stevenson, Justin Meaux, Frank Zito, William Montgomery, Robert Montgomery served as pallbearers. Burial was in Clay Cemetery, near Piedmont, MO.
